University of Akron head football Rob Ianello admits that his team had a 'jump' in their step when they resumed practice earlier this week.
That 'jump' followed their 36-13 victory over VMI Saturday at InfoCision Stadium.
This coming Saturday, the Zips jump back into Mid-American Conference play at Eastern Michigan.
With eight games remaining in the season, Ianello hopes that his players look forward to the remainder of this season and not the 2012 campaign.
Akron has been getting solid offensive production from two players, running back Jawon Chisolm and wide receiver Keith Sconiers. Chisolm ran for 188 yards and one touchdown in the VMI win. Sconiers caught 8 passes for `54 yards and two touchdowns.
Eastern Michigan has victories over Howard and Alabama State this season and losses to Michigan and Penn State.
It's been a rough start of the season for the University of Akron Football team.
The Zips have started the season with three consecutive losses, to Ohio State, Temple and Cincinnati. They have been outscored in those games 142 to 17.
Akron hopes that playing at InfoCision Stadium will turn the trick. 4 of the next 5 games will be played at home. On Saturday, Akron will play VMI, Virginia Military Institute, at 2 o'clock on 'Parents Weekend'.
Zips head coach Rob Ianello says despite the 0-3 record, there are some positives that need to be pointed out.
One is running back Jawon Chisolm, who is averaging nearly 75 yards a game on the ground. A second positive is wide receiver Keith Sconiers, who has caught 11 passes in three games. Chisolm had over 100 yards rushing in the 59-14 loss to Cincinnati. Sconiers had over 100 receiving yards in the Cincinnati game.
Ianello says these are two building blocks that the program can build around.
Plus, Ianello says Clayton Moore is making progress as the starting quarterback.
