Residents in Green could see a few more chickens in the neighborhood starting in June

Green City Council voted 6-1 in a Tuesday night meeting to allow residents with at least two acres of land to house a maximum of eight laying hens. Previously, a five-acre minimum was required.

Ward 2 Councilman Dave France voted against the change.

"I felt a better way to handle this would have been through the Zoning Board of Appeals," said France. "I just didn't think the city should lower that requirement of five acres for chickens."

The ordinance will take effect June 7 and will require residents to apply for permits from the city's Zoning Division.
