Australian Jason Day is a big fan of the state of Ohio.

Day is the early first round leader at the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational at the South Course of Firestone Country Club.  Day shot a seven under par 63 in the opening round...  (32-31)

Day with seven birdies and no bogeys on his scorecard on Thursday’s first round.  Day had birdies at 2, 5, 9, 10, 13, 16 and 18.

Day says the key to his round was keeping his drives in the fairway.  Plus, Day said, his putter was on fire, making a number of 15-20 foot putts.  He said he changed putters this week, going back to his ‘mallet’ putter seemed to pay off.

Day will tee off Friday afternoon for his second round of the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational at 1:50 pm with his partner Phil Mickelson.

Some other reasons Day likes the state of Ohio, he won his first professional golf tournament here.  Day won a Nationwide Tour Event at the Stone water Golf Club in suburban Cleveland.  And Day’s wife is from Twinsburg and the couple resides near Columbus.  Originally, Jason Day is from Brisbane, Australia.

Day says it’s great to be able to play in front of family and friends.
