It might become the most watched back in Division III softball and it definitely brought Black River down a peg as Dagmar Smith – the Pirates' do-everything pitcher – has been shut down for at least the next two weeks. A nagging back injury kept the junior off the field for the JB Firestone Invitational over the weekend, where Black River finished second, and out of the circle Monday in an 8-6 loss to Buckeye. “She will probably not pitch until tournament time,” Pirates coach Merle Simmons said. “I’ll save her until then.
