WADSWORTH, Ohio -- Wadsworth senior guard Rachel Goddard knew it was going to be a big game against Suburban League rival Highland on Saturday night. What was going to be the key to victory for the Grizzlies? “We just have to do what we do,” Goddard said. That was more than enough for Wadsworth as the Grizzlies beat Highland 83-46 to close out the first half of the Suburban League season. Through round one of the Suburban League, Wadsworth is undefeated at 7-0. Highland is 5-2. “We needed to elevate the pace of the game and show some patience on offense, ” Wadsworth coach Andrew Booth said. The Grizzlies did both. Highland scored the first two points of the game on a basket by junior forward Haley Roddy. Wadsworth stormed back, showing patience on offense, getting back-to-back-to-back 3-pointers from Kara Long, Goddard and Haley Hassinger to jump to a 9-2 lead. The Grizzlies increased the lead to 10 at the end of the first quarter. Wadsworth stepped up the defensive pressure on Highland to start the second quarter. The Grizzlies ran off the first 11 points of the quarter to take a 31-10 lead with five minutes to go in the first half. Copyright 2012 SportsInk.
