MASSILLON, Ohio – The Black River softball team had a plan for its first Regional Semifinal appearance, and the Pirates executed it almost to perfection in an 11-6 win over Canton Central Catholic in the Massillon Division III Regional. Before their first time up to bat in the top of the first inning, the Pirates (22-9) broke their huddle saying, “Break it open!” Black River didn’t get a big inning in the first but did bat around in the second to pick up an early 6-0 lead. “We love getting ahead early,” senior Kayla Finkel said. “It’s a big confidence boost for us.
