Masterpress/Getty Images(TAMPA, Fla.) -- Mariano Rivera has officially called it quits.
The New York Yankees closer formally announced his retirement at a news conference on Saturday at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
"After this year, I will be retiring," said Rivera, alongside his wife and two sons.
Rivera holds the all-time saves record with 608, eight more than Trevor Hoffman. He also holds the record for postseason saves with 42.
He has helped the Yankees to five World Series titles during his career.
The 43-year-old missed most of last season after tearing his ACL shagging fly balls before a game against Kansas City in May.
