"It's always nice to end it fairly early," said Kelly of the overtime. "Goalies are so good now I think the days of going down the wing and beating a goalie are long gone. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it go in."

Washington goalie Braden Holtby played a spectacular game. Holtby, the third string goalie, was forced to play because both Tomas Vokoun and Michal Neuvirth are injured. He made 29 saves and hung with two time Vezina Cup and last years Conne Smythe Trophy-winner Tim Thomas all game.

"The next game will be different," Capitals star Alex Ovechkin said. "We know we can play against them. Holtby played a hell of a game. He was nervous but once he made the first save he calmed down."

The two teams will take the ice for game two Saturday at 3 PM ET in Boston.
