Kent's Simmons Player Of Week 11/3/2009 11:19:36 AM | Joe Jastrzemski, AkronNewsNow.com The Mid-American Conference has named Kent State University junior defensive end Monte Simmons as the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week. advertisement Simmons, from Swissvale, Pennsylvania, led another strong defensive effort with five tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble in a 26-14 win over Western Michigan. Simmons and the Kent State defense held the Broncos to less than 300 yards of offense, including only 38 yards on the ground. Simmons posted a career-high three sacks as the Golden Flashes' have now won three straight games. Simmons joins teammates Cobrani Mixon (Sept. 7), Brian Lainhart (Sept. 21) and Kevin Hogan (Oct. 26) as Flashes to earn Defensive Player of the Week accolades this season. The four honorees matches the 2001 season for the most in school history. Simmons now stands second in the Mid-American Conference in sacks with 7.5.
