Ellet baseball beats Firestone, finishes 13-0 in City Series

  AKRON, Ohio – As excited as the Ellet baseball team was following its 7-6 victory over the Firestone Falcons in the City Series Championship game, something – or rather someone – was missing from the Orangemen’s celebration at Canal Park on Monday evening. Moments after making a defensive game-saving play in the top of the sixth inning senior third baseman Tyler Simcox was warming up in the on deck circle in the bottom half of the inning when he was hit in the face by a foul ball off the bat of senior starting pitcher Bryan Staley. “He almost turned enough to get out of the way, but you could see how it was hit right there and it obviously shook us all up,” Ellet coach John Sarver said. “To our credit, the guys got their heads back together and got it back for him too, I know he’s smiling tonight about that.
