The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled RHP COREY KLUBER & LHP NICK HAGADONE from AAA Columbus. OF SHIN-SOO CHOO has been placed on the 15-day Disabled List with a left oblique strain, retroactive to August 28th, to allow Hagadone on the roster.
Kluber, 25, has spent the entire season at Columbus where he has gone 7-10 w/a 5.65 ERA in 26 starts (146.2IP, 150H, 92ER, 67BB, 140K, .265AVG). Over his last 3 starts he recorded an ERA of 3.86 (18.2IP, 11H, 8ER, 8BB, 25K) and tossed 6.2 hitless innings on August 16 at Pawtucket (6.2IP, 0H, 0R, 5BB, 11K). Currently he is 3rd in the International League in strikeouts (140), 8th in innings pitched (146.2) and T3rd in starts (26). He will be making his MLB debut wearing #34. Kluber was acquired from San Diego last July 31 in a three-team trade that sent RHP Jake Westbrook to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Hagadone, 25, has split the season between AA Akron and AAA Columbus where he has gone a combined 6-4 with a 2.79 ERA (71.0IP, 56H, 31R/22ER, 22BB, 77K, .212 avg, 5HR) in 46 relief appearances. He owns an ERA of just 1.91 ERA (33.0IP, 29H, 7ER) over his last 22 appearances since June 23 for the Clippers. Overall at Columbus he was 4-3 w/a 3.35 ERA in 34 outings (48.1IP, 42H, 18ER, 53K).
The Sumner, Washington native was with the Indians from August 26-28, but did not appear. He will be making his Major League debut wearing #50. He was acquired from the Boston Red Sox along with RHP Justin Masterson and Bryan Price on July 31, 2009 in a trade that sent CA Victor Martinez to Boston.
Choo last played on August 27th. He is hitting .260 (81-312) with 11 doubles, 3 triples, 8 homers and 36 RBI in 84 games. It marks his 4th career stint on the DL, his second this year.
