BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- As the Cleveland Browns packed up after another losing season, veteran cornerback Sheldon Brown preached patience.

With one of the NFL's youngest teams, the Browns (4-12) endured growing pains in their first season under coach Pat Shurmur, who was brought in to build a foundation. Brown believes Shurmur is the right choice to resurrect the Browns and said the biggest mistake would be to overhaul a mostly inexperienced roster that showed promise. The Browns couldn't win the close games, but Brown said the team isn't far from being a contender and "it's going the right way."

Brown also said it would be foolish to think a player like Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III can ride in and save the Browns.

Cleveland will have the No. 4 pick in April's draft.
