Baby red crabs invade Cayman Islands

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (AP) -- Hundreds of thousands of baby red crabs are invading the Cayman Islands in an annual migration that residents say is more pronounced this year.

The crabs are blanketing roads and crawling up buildings in an event that is expected to last about a month.

The deputy director of the Environment Department says the crabs likely hatched a few weeks ago. Tim Austin said Wednesday that the recent "supermoon" and low tides likely have made it easier for the crabs to get back to land after being born in the ocean.
