Earthquake Rattles Southern MexicoJason Reed/Thinkstock(MEXICO CITY) -- An earthquake measuring a preliminary 6.3 magnitude struck near Oaxaca, Mexico, on Monday, the same region rocked last month by a powerful 7.4 magnitude quake.
There was no immediate word Monday of injuries or significant damage as a result of this latest earthquake.
In Mexico City, ABC’s Cindy Hawes estimates the effects of the earthquake there lasted less than minute, long enough to send frightened workers and residents into the streets.
“The movement was fairly strong,” she said, “and swaying back and forth. I saw this little boy who was hugging his father outside on the sidewalk, looking up at the building.”
Hawes said the shaking was “not as strong” as last month’s earthquake, “but again, it was a jolt,” she said.
