The Algerian Ministry for Foreign Affairs says Gadhafi’s wife Safia, daughter Aicha, and sons Hannibal and Mohammed, along with their children, crossed into Algeria on Monday, according to the Algerian news agency APS.
The Libyan leader’s whereabouts remain unclear.
U.S. State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland was unable to confirm the news Monday but said, “we want to see justice and accountability for Gadhafi and those members of his family with blood on their hands -- and those members of his regime with blood on their hands, but it will be a decision of the Libyan people how that goes forward. ”
And as for members of the Gadhafi family who have been indicted by the International Criminal Court?
“Our position has been that those members of his family, those members of his regime with blood on their hands, should be brought to justice,” Nuland said. “With regard to other members of his family, I think these needs to be a Libyan decision. “
