DEKALB, Ill. (AP) -- Northern Illinois has suspended freshman linebacker Jamaal Bass for the player's action prior to the Huskies' 63-60 win over Toledo.

Bass will miss next Tuesday's game against Bowling Green

Head coach Dave Doeren said Wednesday that Bass was involved in a situation which brought the Huskie team into contact with the Rocket Marching Band. Doeren said he reviewed a tape of the game and discussed it with athletic director Jeff Compher before suspending Bass.

The tape shows Bass leaping into a flute player, knocking him to the ground.

In a statement, Doeren apologized for Bass' action, saying he will "do whatever is necessary to ensure that something like this never happens again."

Compher said he contacted Mid-American Conference officials and has made them aware of actions taken by Northern Illinois.
