TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A convicted child molester wanted in Tucson has been arrested in Germany after evading authorities for 11 years.
The U.S. Marshal's Service says 49-year-old Frank Karl Hertel remains in the custody of German authorities while awaiting extradition to the U.S.
They say Hertel was arrested Friday. He reportedly was living in Useriner-Muehle with his wife and child and running a bar and grill under his brother's name.
Authorities secured a provisional arrest warrant from German courts to apprehend Hertel.
The Pima County Superior Court issued a warrant for Hertel in August 2000 after he fled the U.S. during his Tucson trial. He was tried in absentia in 2001 and found guilty of sexual conduct with a minor under age 15.
Authorities say Hertel also is facing rape charges in Ohio.
