CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) -- Jamaine Cook rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown, Kurt Hess added 264 yards passing and two scores, and Youngstown State snapped Southern Illinois' nine-game homecoming winning streak with a 35-23 victory Saturday.

It was the first victory in Carbondale since 2001 for the Penguins (3-3, 2-2 Missouri Valley Conference) and Cook's fifth straight 100-yard rushing game.

Cook scored on a 2-yard run in the third quarter to give Youngstown State its first lead, 21-17. Jewel Hampton put the Salukis (2-4, 1-3) back on top with a 20-yard touchdown run, his third score of the game, later in the quarter.

Hess then gave the Penguins the lead for good when he hit Jelani Berassa for a 15-yard TD. Hess had found Christian Bryan on an 18-yard score earlier in the third.

Josh Lee recovered a fumbled punt in the end zone late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
