AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Thousands of dollars in scholarships are up for grabs by the top finishers in the All-American Soap Box Derby in northeast Ohio.
Saturday's championship wraps up the 75th running of the event.
More than 400 racers arrived in Akron earlier this week for a series of events, including a parents' race and a family night.
Event organizers have been working to rebuild the popularity of the nonprofit organization and its financial footing. They say a new focus on education and new sponsors and events may help revitalize the derby.
They've also created a sort of museum of old derby cars and other memorabilia, hoping it will help build public interest.
