WEIRTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A former assistant prosecutor in Hancock County has been charged in connection with the fatal heroin overdose of a man last year.
The Weirton Daily Times (http://bit.ly/KIaAlq ) says Weirton attorney Don Humberson is charged with battery and possession of a controlled substance.
Weirton Police Chief Bruce Marshall says Humberson went to Steubenville, Ohio, last May and purchased 10 bags of heroin for himself and two other men.
One of those men - Scott Roach - later overdosed. He died in a hospital a few weeks later.
To avoid conflicts of interest, Hancock County Magistrate Scott Hicks has turned the case over to Ohio County Prosecutor Scott Smith.
Humberson is set to appear in court June 26.
He didn't immediately respond to a message left at his law office on Wednesday.
