COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A former state treasurer will soon take a seat in the Ohio House.

Democrat Kevin Boyce has been appointed to fill a vacancy created after ex-state Rep. W. Carlton Weddington of Columbus resigned his seat in March.

Weddington was indicted on charges of bribery, election falsification and filing a false ethics statement. He has pleaded not guilty.

Boyce will be sworn in Wednesday. He has been serving as managing director at Rice Financial where he specialized in municipal bonds. He said in a statement Tuesday he was thrilled at the chance to return to public life.

Boyce was a Columbus councilman from 2000 until he was appointed state treasurer by Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland in 2008.

He lost his state office to Republican Josh Mandel (man-DEHL') in 2010.
