COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A 71-year-old man who pleaded guilty to murder in the strangulation of a teenage girl in 1975 in suburban Columbus has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien says Robert W. Meyer pleaded guilty and was sentenced Monday in Columbus. O'Brien says DNA evidence from the clothing of 17-year-old Karen Adams matched Meyer's and he was arrested last September.

O'Brien says Adams of Whitehall left home March 9, 1975, to meet a friend. Her body was found the next day in a ditch.

O'Brien says Meyer served 10 years in prison on a 1963 murder conviction and was convicted in 1976 of rape and kidnapping in a separate case. He was released in 2001.

Meyer's attorney did not immediately return messages Tuesday.
