ERIE, Pa. (AP) -- Western Pennsylvania fruit farmers say a combination of early warm weather and frosts caused major damage.

The Erie Times-News ( http://bit.ly/KIMaHk ) reports Tuesday that some farmers lost 80 to 90 percent of their fruit crops.

Rich Erdle, member services director for the National Grape Cooperative, which owns Welch's, tells the paper that there's significant damage to grapes from Ohio to Pennsylvania and New York.

Erdle says it may be the worst frost damage to grapes in 35 years, though final estimates aren't in yet.

The paper reports that some vineyards are undamaged in warmer areas close to Lake Erie.
