COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Attorney General Mike DeWine says Ohio will get more than $10.7 million for its share of a settlement between dozens of states and Abbott Laboratories.

The pharmaceutical company was accused of promoting the anti-seizure drug Depakote for uses that were not federally approved, resulting in false Medicaid claims. Authorities said Monday that Abbott pleaded guilty and agreed to pay $1.5 billion.

More than half of that amount is civil damages and penalties to compensate the affected health care programs.

DeWine says Ohio also will receive $3.75 million as part of a separate agreement with Illinois-based Abbott that was announced Monday. It settled consumer claims that Abbott improperly marketed Depakote.

DeWine says Ohio's share of that settlement will be added to a fund for the state's consumer protection efforts.
