ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) -- New Winthrop coach Pat Kelsey knows in his heart he was meant to teach young people like his mentor, coach and friend, the late Skip Prosser.

Kelsey was hired in March to take over the Eagles after leaving the game for a year to deal with the lingering emotions over Prosser's sudden death in the summer of 2007. Kelsey was a Wake Forest assistant for Prosser that day when he arrived in his boss' office to see people administering defibrillator treatments after the massive heart attack that killed the Demon Deacons coach.

Kelsey continued at Wake Forest for two more years before joining fellow Prosser protege Chris Mack at Xavier. Two years with the Musketeers did not bring piece and Kelsey took the extraordinary step of walking away.
