SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) -- Federal officials have detained a Canadian commercial fishing boat suspected of illegal angling near North Bass Island on Lake Erie.

Staff at Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources contacted the U.S. Coast Guard Thursday morning about the boat.

The Sandusky Register reports ( http://bit.ly/KuS9z6 ) a Coast Guard team from the Marblehead station determined the vessel was fishing about 160 yards inside U.S. waters.

The paper says federal law enforcement officers boarded and temporarily detained the Canadian boat.

The Ohio Department of National Resources will pursue action against the vessel.
