HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) -- Grief counselors are on hand Friday at an Ohio high school as students and staff cope with the loss of two juniors killed in a car crash a day earlier.

A preliminary report by the Butler County Sheriff's Office says a car driven by one of the students failed to yield to an oncoming tractor trailer at an intersection in Milford Township Thursday afternoon.

The report says the driver, 17-year-old Miranda Lane, and her passenger, 17-year-old Mathilde Jessen, died at the scene.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports ( http://cin.ci/Ji65Ok ) the girls were students at Colerain High School where officials did not learn of the crash until late Thursday because the accident happened outside the school's attendance area.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured and the accident remains under investigation.
