MASON, Ohio (AP) -- Summer must be just around the corner, as Kings Island amusement park in southwest Ohio opens Saturday for its 40th anniversary season.

It's celebrating that mark with a newly expanded and renamed waterpark. "Soak City" waterpark will open May 26 with 30 water slides and cover 33 acres, more than doubling the size of its old waterpark. The opening of the new water park comes as the nearby Beach Waterpark closes after 27 years.

Kings Island will be open daily starting May 11.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports ( http://cin.ci/I5K2ZF ) that the Son of Beast roller coaster will remain closed for a third season and that the park is evaluating options. The troubled wooden roller coaster has been blamed for injuries to more than two dozen riders.
