CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has named French conductor Louis Langre (LOO'-ee lahn-GRAY') as its new music director starting in the 2013-14 season.

The orchestra announced Langree's appointment on Tuesday, with the terms of the contract not disclosed.

He will succeed Paavo Jarvi (PAH'-voh YAHR'-vee) who left in May 2011 after 10 years.

The orchestra says Langree will serve as principal conductor and artistic director.

He is also music director of the Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the 51-year-old conductor, who lives in Paris with his wife and two children, says the quality of the Cincinnati orchestra was a major attraction.

The orchestra says past music directors for the 117-year-old organization included Leopold Stokowski and Max Rudolf.
