ROCKY RIVER, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities are trying to determine what caused an extensive fish kill reported in the Cleveland Metroparks.

Thousands of fish have died along several miles of the East Branch of the Rocky River running through Cleveland's western suburbs into Lake Erie.

Spokeswoman Jamey Graham with the Ohio Division of Wildlife said crews are investigating the kill, reported Sunday by a fisherman.

The kill involved bass, darters, minnows and rainbow trout.

Crews have been stocking rainbow trout in the river but canceled a stocking scheduled for Monday.

The Plain Dealer (http://bit.ly/I9SHyT ) reports the fish kill began upstream in Strongsville.
