ST. BERNARD, Ohio (AP) -- A firefighter has been injured in a fire at a recycling plant that sent clouds of black smoke into the air, visible for miles.

The firefighter was taken away by ambulance around 7:20 p.m. from the Rumpke Recycling plant. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that ( http://cin.ci/HyzEiF ) the firefighter's injuries were described as minor in radio conversations.

Rumpke spokeswoman Molly Yeager says an employee spotted the fire in a pile of recyclables. Seven employees who were at the plant evacuated safely.

About 15 fire companies fought the flames. The fire was reported under control around 9 p.m.

Rumpke's website says the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage has not been determined.
