COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The lawyer whose email tips about football players trading memorabilia for tattoos triggered a scandal at Ohio State has been jailed on a contempt of court allegation in an unrelated traffic offense.

The Columbus Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/HVDgEt ) Christopher Cicero is accused of lying to a judge to get a speeding ticket reduced to a headlight violation. The 55-year-old attorney was to appear Tuesday in a Columbus court.

Court records show Cicero was given a speeding citation March 21, and paid a $75 fine on April 3 after it was reduced.

A city prosecutor says Cicero apparently told the judge the switch had been approved by an assistant city attorney. She says the city has asked the judge to toss out the decision that reduced the charge.

No defense attorney was listed in online court records.
