VERMILION, Ohio (AP) -- An Ohio city along Lake Erie that was a shipbuilding site is using its upcoming 175th anniversary to raise money in hopes of buying the property of a maritime museum that's moving elsewhere.

The city of Vermilion has the option to buy the property of the Inland Seas Maritime Museum, which is moving to Toledo and expanding under a new name.

The Morning Journal in Lorain ( http://bit.ly/HmGl6b ) reports Vermilion must raise more than $1.6 million to buy the museum property. City and business leaders organizing anniversary events plan to include a fundraiser with museum tours, a gala and the burial of a time capsule.

They'll also sing "Happy Birthday" at the Fish Festival in June and plan a project to scan residents' photographs to help preserve the city's history.
