COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Residents will get a rare opportunity to view the original Ohio Constitution this week in recognition of Statehood Day.

The Ohio Historical Society says it will display the 1802 Constitution and other founding documents on Thursday in Columbus.

The Columbus Dispatch ( http://bit.ly/zV0Ksr ) reports the constitution had been displayed publicly only twice in the past two decades. It's typically stored in a locked vault with controlled temperature and humidity levels to preserve it.

The tri-fold document outlined a state where the governor's powers were more limited and the only voters were white men who were at least 21 years old.

It was updated in 1851 and again in 1912. A state commission that includes lawmakers is considering whether the constitution needs another update over the next few years.
