Trump Angling for Invitation to GOP ConventionMike Stobe/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- If anybody could liven up things at the Republican National Convention later this month, it would be Donald Trump. The real estate magnate and host of NBC's Celebrity Apprentice said as much himself Monday on Fox News' Fox and Friends.
Trump, who briefly entertained running for president while doubting the U.S. citizenship of President Obama, said about a possible invitation by Republicans, "I know they want me to. I’ll see what happens."
After initial misgivings about the candidate, Trump decided to endorse Mitt Romney for president earlier this year, and the presumptive nominee's campaign seems to have welcomed Trump's support.
Even if Trump is not invited to speak at the convention, he will be in Florida the day before to receive a "Statesman of the Year" award from the Sarasota Republican Party.
