President Obama Hosts Reception for Ford’s TheaterShahar Azran/WireImage(WASHINGTON) – President Obama is hosting a private reception at the White House Sunday afternoon for the Ford’s Theater Society, ahead of their annual gala event Sunday night.
The historic playhouse, most famously known as the site of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, hosts their yearly dinner to award those who exemplify the character and legacy of the former president.
This year, the organization will be bestowing Lincoln Medals upon two men: Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel, and actor Morgan Freeman for his humanitarian activism.
First lady Michelle Obama has been named as the honorary chair of tonight’s activities.
The Obamas have attended several events for the society since first entering the White House, going back to a 2009 gala for the theater to commemorate its renovation.
