Trees Planted For Arbor Day

Arbor Day is being recognized throughout Summit County.

Among the tree planting ceremonies is one at Miller South Middle School in Akron.  Students there won a slogan contest by Keep Akron Beautiful, so a donated tree is being planted on the school grounds.

Green Intermediate School is also home to a new tree, but not before an assembly that includes the city's planning director to explain the city's tree policy.  That was prompted by a fourth grader who wanted to know what happened to some trees that were stripped away to make room for development.

You'll  notice a new Celebration Maple tree at Kennedy Park in Cuyahoga Falls to  mark the city's bicentennial.  Officials there want to plant 200 new trees and shrubs as part of the special anniversary.

Girl Scouts of North East Ohio will gather at their corporate office in Macedonia, along with city officials, to plant a tree that not only observes Arbor Day, but also Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary.
