A 48-year old Tallmadge man who was convicted of his 19th DUI was sentenced today. George Greer was handed a 10 year prison sentence and saw his driving privileges suspended for life by Summit County Common Pleas Court Judge Lynne Callahan.

On January 2nd, a passerby called 911 after he spotted Greer passed out in the driver’s seat of a car that had crashed into a pole. While on the phone with 911, the passerby woke Greer and tried to shut off the car, which was still in gear. Greer drove away, but the passerby saw Greer pull into a nearby church parking lot and get out of the car. Greer refused to participate in any field tests or use a breathalyser when police arrived at the scene. A forced blood draw showed Greer’s blood alcohol content to be .215.

Listen to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh comment on Greer's sentence.

The jury found Greer guilty of two counts of Operating Under the Influence, with specifications for having five DUIs in 20 years. The jury also found Greer guilty of Driving Under Suspension, a misdemeanor, and Failure to Control and Possession of Marijuana, also misdemeanors.
