Barricaded Tallmadge Gunman Arrested

A Tallmadge man was arrested after barricading himself inside his home with a gun to his head early Saturday morning.

Talmadge police say they received a report of an intoxicated man with a gun shortly before 1 a.m. in the 1100 block of Newton Street.

William Hazel, 23, began pointing a .22 pistol a gun at himself and others at his home after police say he was angry over a pending eviction.

After officers were able to get most of the people out of the house, Hazel went inside the home and pointed a gun at his head.

The 23-year-old man surrendered to the Summit County Sheriff's SWAT team after about an hour and a half.

He was charged with inducing panic, domestic violence, disorderly conduct and drug paraphernalia.

Hazel's brother, Robert Hazel, 26, was also arrested after police say he refused officers commands to stop agitating his brother.

William Hazel is being held in the Summit County Jail awaiting his initial appearance in Stow Municipal Court.
