It has long been one of Akron's most popular places to shop for items taken from damaged freight shipments and deeply discounted items for sale.

Rex's Salvage Freight on South Arlington Street will close its doors for good in mid-March.

Rex's operator, Recovery Management Corporation, announced today that it's consolidating the salvage operation into its Kansas City headquarters location.

The consolidation will affect 10 full-time and six part-time local employees, some of whom will be offered comparable jobs in Kansas City.

Recovery Management Corporation officials say the ongoing economy and changes in the freight industry drove the decision to close the Akron salvage store.
