The forecast for this weekend calls for a hot one -- and we're not talking a cup of hot chocolate.

The regional agency that monitors air quality for northeast Ohio issued an Air Quality Advisory for most of the region -- from Lorain to Ashtabula and the lakeshore inland to Medina, Portage and Summit Counties. The Advisory serves as a warning to individuals with breathing conditions that higher temperatures and build-up of pollutants, along with sunlight, can aggravate the linings of the lungs.

Northeast Ohio - An Air Quality Advisory for ozone and fine particles has been issued for Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit Counties. Air quality levels will be "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" during afternoon peak hours.

Accumulation of pollutants will occur due to stable conditions in atmosphere. At high temperatures(typically above 75F) and in the presence of sunlight, these pollutants react to form ozone. Ozone is harmful because it can worsen bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma. Ground level ozone can also reduce lung function and inflame the linings of the lungs.

What can you do

- Avoid lawn mowing during air quality advisory days.
- Choose public transportation when possible. In Cuyahoga, try Ride RTA, in Lake County visit Laketran, and in Summit County visit Akron Metro.
- Avoid open burning.
- Plan and combine your trips. Avoid delays and idling.
