The reported robbery of a Salvation Army bell-ringer in North Canton in November turns out to be false, with the bell-ringer now facing charges.
It was on November 19th that bell-ringer Kevin Weitzel of Canton told North Canton Police four men, one armed with a knife, had robbed him , taking $235 from his red kettle in front of a North Canton K-Mart.
But after two months of investigation city police assisted by the Ohio State Highway Patrol determined that Weitzel had allegedly taken the money himself. He's now charged with theft and filing a false report.
