Akron Police Detectives and the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating a double shooting that occurred on the city's west side Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the gunfire erupted on Madison Avenue around noon today.

Two men were shot,  a 27-year old man was found deceased by officers. The other was critically injured.

Akron Police Lieutenant Rick Edwards says the critically injured man was transported to Akron General Medical Center.

The shooting remains under investigation. The names of both victims are being withheld pending positive identification and notification of family members.

Akron Detectives Investigate Double Shooting

A double shooting in Akron early Sunday morning has opened up an investigation.

Akron detectives say it happened around 1 a.m. in the 1000 block of Johnston Street.

The first victim was found lying on the ground near Johnston Street and Gibbs Place. He was shot in the torso and was transported to Akron City Hospital.

The second victim, a 16-year-old male, was found near Johnston Street and Downing Place with a gunshot wound to his shoulder. He was transported to Akron General Medical Center.

Neither victim suffered life threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as light complexioned, black male, 20 – 24 years old, 5’10” – 5’11”, 145 – 160 lbs. He was wearing a red shirt and dark blue jeans.
