Cleveland Beansprouts Co. is recalling all alfalfa sprouts it's distributed because they may be contaminated with Listeria, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections to those with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The contamination was discovered by the Ohio Department of Agriculture while collecting and testing samples under the United States Department of Agriculture’s Microbiological Data Program.
