Summit County's newest Common Pleas Court judge was officially sworn in on Friday, taking the oath of office from Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor.
But Judge Jane M. Davis has already been serving on the county Common Pleas bench since early July.
She says with the seat being open since Judge Eleanor Marsh Stormer became judge in the county Probate Court over 7 months ago, clearing a backlog is her first order of business on the bench.
"Cleaning up the docket, in terms of civil and criminal cases," Judge Davis tells AkronNewsNow.com, "particularly the civil cases are a little backlogged, the foreclosure cases."
Judge Davis says it's a different role in her life.
"I only took pro bono cases, so I'm looking forward to serving the public in a different capacity," Judge Davis says. "It's a new chapter in my legal career. I won't be an advocate anymore, I will be a neutral party."
She says she's always wanted to be a judge, which she considers a great way to serve the public.
