UPDATE Police: Man Shot, Killed In Canton Credit: Canton Police Department

Canton police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened over the weekend.

Capt. Dave Davis with the Canton Police Department tells AkronNewsNow that a man was shot in the upper leg at The Friendly Corner Tavern on Harrison Avenue early Saturday morning around 2 a.m.

The victim, Roosevelt Newell, 41, of Canton, was taken to Aultman Hospital where he later died.

Authorities have identified the suspect in the fatal shooting as 29-year-old Samuel Darrell Woods with a last known address in Columbus.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting or about suspect's whereabouts is asked to contact the Canton Police Department at (330) 489-3144
