An Akron man faces charges after police say he kicked down the door of an elderly South Akron woman.
Police are still looking for 41 year-old Daniel Spiegel, after they say he forced his way into the 96 year-old woman's home on Wednesday at around noon.
Akron police Capt. Dan Zampelli says Spiegel asked for shelter from the cold, and because she was leary of him, the woman refused to let him in.
"At this time, he kicked in the door, knocked this 96 year-old female to the ground," Capt. Zampelli tells AkronNewsNow.com, "and then took money that was in a purse that was located in her bedroom. He then fled on foot from that location".
Capt. Zampelli says it's believed that Spiegel did odd jobs for the woman in the past.
He says she suffered some bumps and bruises, but didn't need to go to the hospital.
The charges against Spiegel are aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary, in part due to the woman's advanced age and the alleged crime taking place at her home.
Spiegel is described as a 41 year old white male, 6 foot 1 inches tall, weighing 212 lbs. with a receding hairline and blue eyes.
Spiegel's last known address is on Coventry Street in East Akron. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is being asked to call the Akron Police detective bureau at (330) 375-2490.
