An Akron police officer had to take down a home intruder Tuesday night.

Police say the homeless man, 23-year-old Mark Losh, broke into a home on Lafollette Street around 11:30PM and attacked the homeowner.

Losh entered the home armed with a rifle, and attacked the homeowner before holding a knife to his neck.

A friend of the owner was there at the time, who called for help after he heard a commotion. When officers arrived, the suspect pointed the rifle at them, and an officer shot Losh in the abdomen.

The suspect is at Akron City Hospital, and is expected to survive. Police are still investigating. It does appear Losh forced his way into the home through a rear door.

No officers were injured.
