An Akron man is expected to spend ten years in prison for kidnapping and robbing a man at a gas station.

Prosecutor Sherri Walsh announced that Judge Thomas Teodosio sentenced 48-year-old Thomas Witcher to this prison term yesterday.

On July 28, a jury found Witcher guilty of kidnapping, aggravated robbery and two counts of firearm specification.

The victim stopped for gas at the BP station at Merriman Road and Portage Path. Witcher approached him and said that his car broke down at the Circle K on Portage Trail and that he needed a ride to his disabled car.

The victim offered to give Witcher money or to call for a ride, but Witcher refused and kept begging for a ride. The driver agreed, but once they got to the Circle K, Witcher pulled out a gun and demanded money, food and a ride to another location. He took the victim's iPod before leaving the car at Timber Top Apartments.
