The 17-year old Barberton teen convicted in the rape and murder of his 3-year old half-sister was sentenced in Summit County Juvenile court Thursday.

D’Marques Jones will be held in  the custody of the Department of Youth Services until he turns 21.

Judge Linda Tucci Teodosio passed down the sentence, saying if Jones commits any acts of violence while at the facility, he could face an additional sentence of life in prison with parole eligibility after 25 years.

A jury found the teenager guilty of the murder and rape of his 3-year old half-sister Makayla Jones on December 13.

Summit County Prosecutors said Jones, who was 15 at the time, raped  Makayla  in June of 2011.

She later died from inflammation and infection of the abdomen stemming from a ruptured colon according to prosecutors.
